| Infrared Adapter (from Computer Magazine)
|
| For anyone with a cellular phone (which is just about everyone these days) and a PC, the MA-600 Infrared Adapter with Handset Manager software is likely to prove a useful little accessory.
This colourful device connects to any serial port on your PC to provide a valuable link between the system and the phone... provided the handset is equipped with an Infrared interface. Currently, supported phones include the Nokia 7110, the Nokia 8210, the Nokia 8850, the Nokia 61xx series, the Motorola L series, and the Siemens S25.
Included in the package are the drivers for getting the MA-600 adapter working in any Windows environment and the installation CD for the Handset Manager. Once installed, the software launches into a simple interface, with only the specific options for your particular handset available to the user.
Using this combination, you can change ring tones, download and edit entries in the phone book, send SMS messages typed at your PC keyboard, and even change any logos or graphics which the phone might display.
Although hardly necessary, this is, nonetheless, a relatively nice-to-have toy. The SMS service, and all its options, are probably the most useful features the Handset Manager software delivers, with the MA-600 simply acting as the carrier between the computer and the device.
